There is certainly a limit where gaming laptop can push itself as upgrades are far more harder unlike Gaming PCs. However Gaming laptop eventually does heat after long sessions of gameplay but most of the time overheating of your laptop depends on how and when you use the Gaming laptop. Ignoring the situation could be fatal and possibly cause a permanent damage to your Gaming laptop. Though most Gaming Laptop PCs have safety mechanism to avoid damage.
If the temperature starts exceeding 90 degree celsius, that is when u should worry about and is considered as overheating, so I strongly recommend to use any of the following softwares to check how hot your gaming rig gets:
- MSI Afterburner
- FurMark
- GPU-Z
Insufficient Power
Insufficient hardware power is one of the most common problems I have observed. You may have ended up in a situation like this when either you gaming rig is old or playing a particular gameon settings who’s requirements doesn’t meet the specs of your newly purchased laptop.
So if you if you still facing overheating issues, then maybe its time to get a laptop or go for a upgrade though not all gaming laptop manufacturers offer upgrading options. Hence if you are thinking of buying a new rig, start thinking what kinds of games and for how long will you be using the laptop or whether you’re planning to do other activities beside gaming like graphic designing, video editing o creating content
Improper Placement
Your gaming laptop can heat unnecessarily if you’ve been placing your it on your laps during gaming sessions Your laps blocks the vents preventing the air from coming inside it and maintaining a balanced air-flow to keep the temperature. These kinds of small things are important to ensure before you start playing. It will be easy to understand whether this issue is caused by improper management or an underlying problem.
Faulty Hardware
Accumulated dust
Cleaning the dust accumulated in the laptop is a must after every 2 year. Excessive dust can accumulate on your fans, CPU, air vents restricting the airflow which makes it hard for the heat to escape and gets trapped in the dust particles hence causing temperature rise and may cause permanent damage the laptop components.
Though the ways of cleaning your gaming laptop vary, Check out the following video which I found which may give you a brief idea of Do’s and Dont’s while cleaning rig.
External Cooling Systems
I would recommend getting a cooling pad with 3 fans minimum if you haven’t got one yet as its worth the investment. Overheating in gaming laptop is the most common issue as there is far little you can do to upgrade it’s hardware when compared to a PC, but you can surely maximize your gaming performance using external fans, cooling pads.
The price generally varies depending on it’s size and number of fans it has. Following are some of the budget cooling pads j would recommend using:
- Havit HV: F2056[3 fans]- $29.99 USD
- Klim Wind Laptop cooling pad: $29.97 USD
- Tecknet Laptop cooling pad- $28.99 USD
There are mainly 2 types of cooling pads you will find, the ones who eject the heat above the pad and the ones which throw exhaust under the pad. Hence choose the gaming pad depending on type of exhaust system your gaming rig has.
Dear Reader,
I am Pratham Basava, founder of Lokkythegamer.
Lokkythegamer is a fairly new video game website that started less than a year ago. My main motive behind starting this website was to provide latest content exclusively focused on gaming. It is currently being managed by a me alone without any co-writers due to financial limits, which affects the amount of content I work on everyday including social media.
Signing up on website, and checking out our social media would provide me great support and huge morale boost to keep going.
Any kind of suggestions or feedback regarding user experience on the website are highly appreciated.
